June 2nd will mark the start of the 51st annual Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This exhibition is Curt Walters’ 26th time to be displayed in one of the most prestigious shows in the world today. The Prix de West showcases the American West through the eyes of the finest contemporary artists in the country.
The Art Sale starts June 9th and will conclude the following night.
This year, Curt has 4 pieces in the show.
Redolent May
18″ x 18″ | Oil on Canvas Board | $9,5000.00
The first is Redolent May. This Plein Aire view of Curt’s backyard is a tribute to his childhood home and the knowledge he gained from his father on how to graft roses. The bright reds and pinks almost bring the aroma of roses to life in this 18” x 18” oil on canvas board.

My Youthful Notion Summoned: Rainbow Bridge
40″ x 40″ | Oil on Canvas | $64,000.00
The large studio painting Curt will exhibit this year is titled My Youthful Notion Summoned: Rainbow Bridge. This view of Rainbow Bridge, highlighted by the sunlight and a brooding storm in the background leaves the viewer in awe of the natural beauty of this indigenous sacred area and National Landmark. The 40” x 40” oil on canvas painting was one Curt waited over 50 years to create. In Curt’s words, “Rainbow Bridge is simply a perfect rainbow.”

Aide-Mémoire: Cholla Power Plant
20″ x 30″ | Oil on Canvas Board | $24,000.00
The third of Curt’s entries into this year’s show is one which captures the world around us and the changes we face. The coal generating power stations of the southwest sprinkled the landscape as Curt honed his skill of painting the world around him. Technology is constantly evolving, which in turn is causing the power generation industry to decommission several coal fired generating stations. Before the Cholla Power Plant is scheduled to fall in 2025, Curt felt it was important to capture this view in Aide-Mémoire, a 20” x 30” oil on canvas board.

Enchantment Reigns
12″ x 12″ | Oil on Canvas Panel | $5,800.00
The last of the four entries Curt will have in Oklahoma is Enchantment Reigns. The 12” x 12” view west from Mather Point was painted on location in the bitter wind and 20 degree temperatures during March of this year. Curt found himself without words to convey the emotions he felt while painting but hopes that in the future he will be able to find those words. Until then, the beauty of Enchantment Reigns can speak for itself.
