WHITE FLATS

In the old days, the area known to locals about 5 miles west of Sedona along 89A was called White Flats. Dotted with junipers, mesquite, and yuccas, I would often stop there to paint. In the distance to the west is Mingus Mountain, and behind me the red rocks of Sedona would grace the horizon. I painted this on the site that would eventually become the Sedona Wastewater Reclamation Plant. They treat over a million gallons of wastewater every day, a necessary and important service to the town. Several wastewater tanks now have altered the landscape and cottonwoods and cattails grow and dominate a huge footprint altering the vistas. Art and artist, now as in all history, record their own time. This painting now belongs to the past and the history of Sedona.
