Fine Art Museum of Sedona Presents “Curt Walters: A Lifetime of Art”
The Fine Art Museum of Sedona (FAMoS) is proud to announce Curt Walters: A Lifetime of Art, a landmark dual-venue retrospective honoring one of America’s premier landscape masters. Acclaimed as the “Grand Canyon Artist of the Century,” Walters is celebrated for his vibrant palettes, mastery of light, and dedicated environmental advocacy.
Spanning five decades of creative genius, this exhibit features iconic Southwest landforms, international plein-air studies, and previously unreleased works from private collections. This marks Curt’s first one-man exhibition in Sedona since 1989—a historic homecoming.

Large-scale studio and plein air canvases of Grand Canyon and majestic Sedona will stop you in your tracks. Beyond these vistas, visitors will discover Walters’ fascination with history, specifically the Spanish Conquistadors’ first encounter with the Grand Canyon in 1540. Period reproduction armor from Curt’s personal collection accompanies his drawings and paintings, bringing the story vividly to life. The exhibit also highlights his expansive global travels—featuring plein air studies from Europe, Asia, and the American Southwest. The early New Mexico paintings offer rare insight into the roots of his career.

Explore Curt’s early career in Sedona from 1980 to 2000. The powerful brushstrokes on display at the Heritage Museum reveal Curt’s deep connection to the evolving landscapes of Northern Arizona, Sedona, and the Verde Valley. With great sensitivity and dedication, he captured the charm of historic homesteads built in the 1900’s which still remained in those days. Title plates will explain each painting and will have photographs of the current location.

Exhibition Catalog
A limited-edition collector’s catalog will be available for purchase during the events and from Curt’s website. Written by Curt and designed by Miranda Walters, this full color catalog is illustrated with historic photos of Curt painting on location, as well as a full display of all painting in this show.

Resilience: The Life and Grand Canyon Art of Curt Walters — winner of three publisher awards (including the IPPY Gold Medal for Best Coffee Table Book) — will be available for purchase and signed by Curt at event venues.

About Curt Walters
Based in Sedona for over 40 years, New Mexico-born artist Curt Walters has earned international acclaim for his impressionistic landscapes. Exhibited at top institutions—including the Eiteljorg, the Autry Museum, and the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum—he received Western art’s highest honor, the Prix de West Award, in 2007 for his painting Spring’s Caprice.
