ONCE UPON A TIME IN SEDONA

Back in the 1980s, West Sedona was a quiet expanse with continuous vistas—and just a single traffic light at the ‘Y’. I loved stopping on a whim whenever something caught my eye. In late August 1985, generous monsoon rains gifted the area with wild sunflowers, making the junipers look as though they were floating on a bed of sweet yellow. Today, townhouses and a gas station occupy the corner where I painted Once Upon a Time in Sedona, leaving me with a deep homesickness for the wild yuccas, sunflowers, and open skies I used to capture there.
