30” x 30” | 1994 | Oil on Canvas

The great Egyptian-born artist, writer, and educator Nassan Gobran and a group of local artists established Sedona’s first art center in 1958. They purchased the former Jordan Apple Packing Barn now known as the Art Barn. When I moved to town in 1979 this was also the creative center of Sedona, and a social gathering place for the growing Sedona artistic community. The historic character was still very much in place when I created several paintings of the back side of the barn standing in Mr. Jordan’s apple orchard. I painted this for a show at the Linda McAdoo Galleries in Santa Fe. I remain nostalgic for the old days before the trees and hillside featured in this painting gave way to a parking lot.
