Early spring is an in-between season and I always look forward to the uncertainty of the weather patterns. This painting is based on a few days in mid-April while painting near Mather Point. I was painting in warm clear sunshine while snow flurries playfully fell on the North Rim. Those plein air paintings and that experience of extraordinary visual contradiction became the inspiration of this painting. The foreground and mid-canyon are bathed in a summer quality light giving way to a winter storm in the distance.
