In 2003, I was very fortunate, thanks to the Grand Canyon Foundation, to raft the lower half of the Colorado River in Grand Canyon with the Intermountain Region Director for the National Parks, Karen Wade and several National Park Superintendents. I have gained tremendous respect for the work and dedication of all of the employees of our national parks. A small study created on that trip was the inspiration for this painting. This view is near Forester Rapids, looking up-river to the area known as Conquistador Isle.
