The Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition & Sale, hosted at the prestigious National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, continues to be a landmark event celebrating both the art and the artists. Having developed a deep affection for summer at Grand Canyon due to the abundant surprises and visual delights, Curt embarked on capturing the essence of this season on canvas. Positioned on the east side of the South Rim, overlooking the Vishnu Vault near the renowned “duck on the rock” viewpoint, the artist painted Umbra’s vista.
Against a backdrop of a brooding monsoon sky casting shadows over distant plateaus and temples, the challenge lay in capturing the intricate play of light in the foreground and midsection. Despite the complexity, Curt found joy and satisfaction in the final result, considering it a heartfelt tribute to the summer of that year.

January Glaciation

Curt was fortunate to be at Grand Canyon in January when a lovely blanket of snow covered the rim and a fog engulfed the chasm. As the fog began to part, the day warmed and the snow began to melt as he hiked along the trail west of Yaki Point. With the close of the day, the temperature dropped and it began to freeze, with the crystalline icicle tips of snow-laden branches catching the late sun. It was a dazzling multitude of prismatic colors which Curt masterfully captured on this canvas.

Currently in the final stages of editing, the manuscript is poised to embark on its next chapter with design and publication by Fresco Books.
