Over these many years I have painted dozens of times in Yosemite National Park and the western Sierra Nevada mountains of central California. Yosemite Valley is a long glacial valley approximately 3000–3500 feet deep and surrounded by high gray granite summits. In this view I painted Half Dome in aerial blue silhouette in the central distant and El Capitan on the left. The green valley is densely forested with pines drained by the Merced River, Yosemite Falls center right in the painting is the highest waterfall in North America, and is a big attraction especially in the spring when the water flow is at its peak and when I did this plein air painting.
