Patrons' Choice Winner, Salmagundi 2010
Curt Walters of Sedona, Arizona, is a fan favorite from coast to coast, winning the first Patrons' Choice Award from the American Masters Fine Art Show & Sale held at the Salmagundi Club in New York City.
At the May 7th gala event, "Overture of Twilight" was distinguished with the award. The piece is a 28" x 22" interpretation of the Grand Canyon from Maricopa Point.
Though this was the 3rd annual American Masters show, it is the first year that an artist has been honored in such a way, and was the only award given for the show.
In addition to Patrons' Choice awards, Walters has previously won the Trustees' Purchase Award from Masters of the American West at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles and the Prix de West Award at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage museum in Oklahoma City, as well as the Artist of Distinction from Quest for the West at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis.
The Salmagundi Club ranks among the oldest art societies in the United States, with members including William Merritt Chase, Thomas Moran and George Innes. Tim Newton was the Coordinating Head of the event, and announced the award.
Other artists in attendance were John and Terri Moyers, David Lefell and Richard Schmid.
Walters is known as "Master of the Grand Canyon" and "The Greatest Living Grand Canyon Artist." His work can be found in museums and public and private collections across America, including The Forbes' Magazine Galleries, Leanin' Tree Museum, Grand Canyon National Park, the estate of Robert Urich, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and astronaut Frank Borman.
